Complication of diabetes mellitus induces cognitive impairments and functional change in brain. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of methanolic extract of S. torvum extract on behavioral indices in alloxan induced diabetic rats. The behavioral effect of S. torvum in alloxan induced diabetic rats were evaluated and compared with diabetic control group (alloxan 120 mg/kg) using object recognition test, grip strength test and actophotometer. Results of the present study was evaluated by one way ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s test and expressed in mean±SEM. Diabetic rats treated with S. torvum (100 mg/kg) and with metformin (120 mg/kg) showed significant increase in discrimination index as compared to diabetic rats in object recognition test, significantly (p<0.05) increased muscle strength and locomotor activity which was measured by digital grip strength meter and actophotometer respectively.
